Food Safety Forward: Preparing for Tomorrow’s Regulatory Landscape

Eurofins Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Douglas Marshall will outline and explain the latest regulatory challenges in food safety and quality from the FDA and USDA with a focus on the new rules and regulations and how they apply to specific foods, upcoming deadlines, future regulations, and regulatory surveillance activities. The presentation will cover a vast array of topics, including:

  • Traceability implications from FSMA 204.
  • Clarification to new guidance on making claims, labeling, and other terminology.
  • Testing considerations for heavy metals, arsenic, partially hydrogenated oils, pre-harvest agricultural water, etc.
  • Implications for processors of meats, poultry, acidified foods, RTE foods, fresh produce, beverages, and more will be addressed.

Douglas Marshall
Douglas is the Chief Scientific Officer with Eurofins Microbiology Laboratories. He is a frequent volunteer and consultant to trade associations, NIH, WHO, FAO, USDA, and other government agencies and private companies. With over 250 publications and nearly 300 invited presentations, his scientific research and outreach interests focus on improving the microbiological quality and safety of foods. Doug is a Fellow and former member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Food Technologists, former Chair of the International Food Science Certification Commission, and former member of the Board of Directors of the American Spice Trade Association.
